GENRE BASED APPROACH ON BIPA TEACHING IN THE PHILIPPINES
Abstract
Indonesian to become an international language is the ideal of the Indonesian nation. This language is one of the languages that has quite a lot of speakers, namely 199 million speakers. This makes Indonesian included in the category of the tenth language with the most speakers in the world. Based on this data, Indonesian has a very big chance to become an international language in the future. BIPA teaching is now increasingly recognized in various parts of the world, one of which is in Philippine. The approaches used in teaching BIPA also vary. The purpose of this research is to explain and describe the application of BIPA text-based teaching at the University of Santo Tomas. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive method. The subject of this study was student text from the results of the application of text-based BIPA at the University of Santo Tomas. Thus, it can be concluded that by using this text-based approach, students can understand Indonesia more closely through the text presented in accordance with certain social goals and understand mental development to solve life's problems.
